Tablehurst Farm Sheep

Tablehurst carries a main flock of about 160 Lleyn and Dorset sheep which lamb in March and April. Recently we have brought in another 60 Dorset sheep because this breed can lamb out of season so that we are able to lamb in the autumn in order to fill the gap for the shop from April to July when the main flock's lambs from the previous year have run out.

The sheep enterprise needs a lot of skilled management as we have to design a grazing system whereby they are not allowed on ground which has been grazed by them in the previous year. This is natural method of preventing the build up of intestinal worms, largely obviating the need for routine and successive chemical worming treatments that conventional flocks have to rely on.
